Departing from Rome, the first lake you will come across is Lake Bracciano, which is situated between the Sabatini Mountains. The beauty of the nature and landscapes, the history and culture, and the archaeological and artistic patrimonies, are the ingredients that make Lake Bracciano a famous stopping point for tourists. There are three villages along its coastline: Bracciano, Trevignano Romano, and Anguillara Sabazia. Lake Bracciano features transparent waters, which are inviting to swimmers and sports enthusiasts of sail boating, windsurfing, canoeing, dragon boating, and scuba. There are numerous seaside resorts along its coast; many of which are decorated by an ancient forest of poplars and beech trees.

Montefiascone and its wine

The town of Bracciano is the main stopping point in the area of the Sabatini Mountains. This town, full of vacation areas, offers many different panoramic views since it is located in a dominating position on a 300-metre-high hill that overlooks the lake. This town was already inhabited in ancient times by the Etruscans, which is proved by the existence of an Etruscan necropolis in Colonnette. Another feature of this town is the splendid Orsini Odescalchi Castle, one of the most important castles of Italy. Today it holds an interesting museum and hosts many events, as well as public and private ceremonies. Inside the museum you can view items from its 6-century-long history; such as: antique weapons, furniture, paintings, books and manuscripts, decorations and frescos.

Wines of Pitigliano and Sovana

Our itinerary continues along the coast of the lake, stopping at Trevignano Romano. This delightful town rises where the antique Etruscan town of Sabatia once stood. In the nearby necropolis, many beautiful items were found and are now located inside the Antiquarium (which is located inside the Communal Building of Trevignano). This town has the typical urban structure of the medieval towns of Lazio: you enter the nucleus of the city through a door that opens up under a clock tower. While you are here, you can visit the already mentioned Communal Building with its 500 year-old portico, and the Church of the Assunta, which has fresco paintings from 1517.
